Were we the first?

Can you help us? After our epic relay run Chasing the Sun from Bridlington to Morecambe, we’re left asking the question: “Where we the first to organise and successfully complete this course on foot?”

On one of the longest days of the year, June 18th, about 20 runners successfully raced the sun from the east coast to the west and won. They were doing it to raise funds for Restore. The run was the brainchild of our Development Officer, Jonny Wooldridge. He believed it could be done despite a number of detractors who said they’d done the maths and it just wasn’t possible.

The relay kept up an average speed of a mile every 8 minutes with the help of some seasoned long distance runners and not a few willing but less experienced souls. They even crossed the Yorkshire-Lancashire border, with a little trepidation of one of Restore’s founders, Ed Hambleton.

So do you know if this race has been done before? It’s often done by cyclists and a combination of running and cycling, but has it been done of foot? We don’t want to take the glory as trailblazers if you know different. Email Jonny Wooldridge and let hm know.

The sponsor page is still open for donations  so if you wanted to give it’s not too late. And we’re hoping to do it again next year.
