Restore began when some Christians in York responded to the needs of broken people in the city. “The spirit of the sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour”. Isaiah 61:1-2. There is no better time for this message than at Christmas. God spoke through the prophet Isaiah many centuries ago that he would send Jesus so that those walking in darkness would see a great light. We are excited that two millennia after the first Christmas we can bring the same message of hope to people in York. The name “Restore” was inspired by Isaiah 58 where God calls on His people to demonstrate true religion in their actions.
